Figures in Landscapes
My current series of oil paintings, originating around 2002, are a continuation of a body of work begun in the early 1990's, which were canvas panels of life-size figures, arranged within, or adjacent to, other panels or three dimensional objects.

In these newer paintings, the sizes of the figures are still quite large, but are combined with smaller figures or sketches, and include additional bits of art historical or cultural reference, mark and note making, and/or pieces of other landscape images. Floating across these canvases or broken planes, the figures and motifs, for me, suggest a traversing of mnemonic, geographic or psychological borders, continuing to question and explore relationships between interior and exterior worlds.
