About the Instructors

Watercolor Classes, Figure Workshop

Ed Hinkley is a Chicago native and self taught painter who has been exhibiting in galleries and museums around Chicago and the Midwest for over 25 years.

His current work, which includes large scale oil paintings as well as watercolor and mixed aquamedia work, has generated grants and fellowships from the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois and the Ragdale Foundation. Ed participates frequently on art juries and panels of grantmaking bodies, and has taught oil and watercolor painting at the Lillstreet Art Center, the Evanston Art Center, at Ox-Bow for the School of the Art Institute, and at the Allihies Language and Art Centre in West Cork, Ireland.


Portrait Workshop

Steve Johnson is a graduate of the American Academy of Art and has 30 years experience of teaching portrait and plein air painting.

Course description: Working with a live model, the method of getting a likeness without drawing will be demonstrated. Also to be explained and discussed are the portrait palette, edge control and landmarks of the face.
